Thoughtful Thursday & Godly Disappointment
As women of faith, particularly within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are taught from a young age about God's love for us.
The foundational belief that we are all children of God is ingrained in us through hymns like "I am a Child of God."
However, along with this beautiful truth, many of us may have also received the message that we must constantly strive to meet an elusive standard of perfection to avoid disappointing our Heavenly Parents.
The pressure we put on ourselves to measure up can lead to feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy when we inevitably fall short of our own or others' expectations.
We may mistakenly believe that God's love for us is something that is earned and conditional upon our performance, forgetting that His love is unconditional and eternal.
Kurt Francom's insights challenge us to rethink our perceptions of God's feelings towards us.
Understanding that God's knowledge is perfect and His expectations are rooted in the power of His Son's Atonement can free us from the burden of trying to earn His love through our actions.
In his book, "Is God Disappointed in Me? Removing Shame from a Gospel of Grace," Francom invites us to shift our focus from fear of disappointing God to trust in His infinite love and mercy.
By embracing our divine identity as beloved children of God, we can find peace in knowing that His love transcends our human limitations and that His grace is always available to lift us up when we stumble.
Let us release the misconception of a disappointed God and instead rejoice in the unwavering love and expectancy He holds for each of us.
