Thoughtful Thursday & The Peacemaker

Discovering Your Enneagram Type: A Journey of Self-Awareness | Insights from an Enneagram Type 9

Have you had a chance to discover your Enneagram Type yet? If not, I invite you to embark on this insightful journey with me.

Understanding the Enneagram and My Journey as a Type 9: The Peacemaker

The Enneagram is a powerful tool for self-discovery and understanding others. It offers deep insights into our core motivations, fears, and desires. As an Enneagram Type 9, often known as "The Peacemaker," my journey has been one of seeking peace and harmony both within myself and in my relationships with others.

Strengths of Enneagram Type 9:

  • Mediation and Empathy: My desire for peace allows me to be a good mediator, empathetic listener, and supportive friend. I naturally seek to create harmony in my surroundings and help others find common ground.

Challenges for Enneagram Type 9:

  • Avoiding Conflict: This strong desire for peace can sometimes lead me to avoid difficult emotions or conversations, often at the expense of my own needs and desires.

  • Disengagement: One of the challenges I face as a Type 9 is the temptation to disengage or "numb out" when faced with stress or conflict. This can make it difficult to express my own opinions and may result in suppressing my true feelings, leading to feelings of resentment.

Personal Growth for Enneagram Type 9: Embracing Authenticity

Through my journey, I’ve discovered that embracing my own voice and setting healthy boundaries, even when it's uncomfortable, is key to finding true peace. This process involves:

  • Balancing Harmony with Courage: Learning to balance my natural inclination for harmony with the courage to fully engage with life's challenges.

  • Embracing Self-Compassion: Recognizing that my needs and desires are valid and important, and trusting that I deserve to be heard and respected.

Reflection Questions for Enneagram Type 9s:

If you resonate with the strengths and challenges of an Enneagram Type 9, consider reflecting on these questions:

  1. What are you postponing in your life to keep the peace?

  2. Can you practice saying “no” when asked to do something you don't want to do?

  3. What are some of your numbing strategies to avoid dealing with life? (e.g., Shopping, Food, Social Media)

  4. What is one small thing you can express your opinion about?

  5. What would your relationships look like if you weren't afraid of conflict?

Embracing Growth and Self-Compassion on Your Enneagram Journey

This journey is not about perfection but about growth and self-compassion. The more we learn about ourselves, the more authentic and empowered we can become. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
