Thoughtful Thursday & Meet Them Where They Are
As I have been studying the New Testament, particularly the stories of Jesus Christ and his disciples, I have been contemplating the phrase, "He meets us where we are."
The Savior entered people's lives and showed them a different way.
He invited them to follow Him and to abide in Him, teaching them faith, hope, and charity.
However, in order to share the good news of His life's mission--to overcome all--He had to meet them right where they were in their own stories.
By doing so, they could get to know Him and trust Him.
I strongly believe that even today, He still does this for us - meeting us in our own stories so that we can know Him and trust Him.
This has led me to ponder how we can follow His example by meeting others in their stories.
The more we try to understand another person's story, the more we can know and love them.
Taking the time to understand someone's struggles, trials, and triumphs, and seeing their humanity and divinity, allows us to meet them in their stories.
After all, we are all God's children living different stories. As Brené Brown notes, “People are hard to hate close up. Move in. Speak truth…Be civil. Hold hands. With strangers. Strong back. Soft front. Wild heart."
How can you meet someone in their story today?
