Episode 147 - Quiet Wealth with Brooke Oniki

In a world obsessed with productivity and efficiency, how do we create true abundance in our lives? Today, we explore the powerful concept of "quiet wealth" and how it can transform your approach to life's most important elements.

What is Quiet Wealth?

Quiet wealth isn't about financial status or external achievements. It's about consciously cultivating abundance in all areas of your life without sacrificing what matters most.

As coach Brooke Oniki explains, "Real wealth isn't me showing off or being loud. It's me creating the things that I value most and finding wealth in things that have nothing to do with money."

This concept, originally developed by coach Amber Smith, focuses on how we can create the life we want without neglecting our relationships, health, spirituality, and sense of purpose.

The Four Elements of Quiet Wealth

Quiet wealth can be understood through four essential elements that require daily nurturing:

1. Fire: Your Creativity and Purpose

  • What it is: Your business, career, finances, creative outlets, and the motivations behind your creative expression

  • Examples: Your job, entrepreneurial ventures, volunteer work, church calling, or how you give back to the world

2. Water: Your Relationships

  • What it is: The connections you maintain with family, friends, neighbors, and community

  • Examples: Quality time with spouse, reaching out to children, nurturing friendships

3. Earth: Your Physical Body

  • What it is: How you ground and energize yourself through physical care

  • Examples: Nourishing food choices, movement, sleep, and physical activity

4. Air: Your Spiritual Well-being

  • What it is: How you connect spiritually with God, yourself, and your inner wisdom

  • Examples: Prayer, meditation, scripture study, nature walks, spiritual reading

The Abundance Frame of Mind

At the heart of quiet wealth is cultivating an abundance mindset. This includes:

Practicing Gratitude for What Is

Rather than thinking "I'll be happy when...", quiet wealth encourages appreciation for what you already have. Whether it's gratitude for your body's functionality, your current relationships, or your present circumstances, this awareness shifts your perspective toward abundance.

Having Faith That Everything's Working

Like watering plants without seeing immediate growth, quiet wealth requires faith that small, consistent efforts will eventually bear fruit. Trust the process of nurturing each area of your life, even when results aren't immediately visible.

Practicing Non-Judgment

Release comparison and judgment of yourself and others. Instead of competing or criticizing, celebrate the unique journeys of those around you.

Cultivating Awakened Presence

Be fully present in each moment and interaction. Practice curiosity and genuine interest in others' perspectives and experiences.

Creating Your Quiet Wealth Practice

Daily Actions: Input and Output

For each element (except water), choose:

  • One input (consumption) activity: something you take in (learning, listening, reading)

  • One output (creation) activity: something you produce or express

For relationships (water), focus on nurturing two specific relationships each day.

Examples:

Fire (Business/Purpose)

  • Input: Read a chapter in a marketing book

  • Output: Write a social media post sharing knowledge

Earth (Physical Body)

  • Input: Drink a green smoothie

  • Output: Take a 15-minute walk

Air (Spiritual)

  • Input: Read a spiritual text

  • Output: Meditate for 10 minutes or write in a gratitude journal

Water (Relationships)

  • Focus on two meaningful connections today (e.g., quality time with spouse, call a child)

The Key Principles

  1. Add rather than subtract: Focus on what you're adding to your life, not what you're removing.

  2. Commit to the activity, not the results: Trust that consistent small actions will create meaningful change.

  3. Embrace flexibility: Create "floors" (minimums) and "ceilings" (ideals) for your practices to accommodate life's fluctuations.

Your Ideal Calendar

Take time to assess how you're spending your days:

  • What does your ideal calendar look like?

  • What adjustments would bring your current schedule closer to your ideal?

  • Make one small change each week toward your ideal calendar.

Monthly Reflection

Set aside time each month to ask:

  • If all things were possible, what would I love?

  • What's working well in my life?

  • What do I want to change?

Finding Your Own Quiet Wealth

What brings you joy requires no money but fills your soul?

For Brooke, it's baking bread for neighbors, walking with a friend weekly, and sitting with her adult children at the kitchen counter while she prepares dinner.

For you, it might be standing in sunshine between tasks, having meaningful conversations, creating something with your hands, or simply being in nature.

The beauty of quiet wealth is that it's entirely personal. What feels nourishing to your soul may be different from what nourishes someone else's.

Remember This Truth

As Naval Ravikant writes: "A fit body, a calm mind, a house full of love. These things cannot be bought. They must be earned."

Quiet wealth is about earning these priceless treasures through intentional care, not through money or status. It's the gentle accumulation of moments that, drop by drop, create a life of true abundance.
